What are the benefits of dental implants?

Having gaps in your smile due to missing teeth can really impact your level of confidence. Dental implants are fast becoming the most popular solution to missing teeth. Whether you are missing one, two or a full arch of teeth, dental implants offer you the permanent solution you have been looking for.

At our Altrincham based private dental practice, we believe in making sure all of our patients are well-informed about a procedure before going ahead. We get lots of enquiries about dental implants, including what the benefits are compared to other solutions such as dentures and bridges.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are a permanent solution to missing teeth that offer a natural-looking appearance and blend seamlessly with your existing teeth. Dental implants are made up of three sections: the implant, the abutment and the prosthetic. An implant itself is a screw made from titanium which is surgically fitted into the bone within the jaw. The bone will grow around the screw and become a permanent fixture within the mouth. The abutment is the part that allows the prosthetic to be fitted on to the screw. A prosthetic can be a crown, bridge, partial or even a full denture.

Why should you replace missing teeth?

When you lose a tooth, it is important to replace it with a prosthetic as soon as possible. Once a tooth is lost, its surrounding teeth will start to shift position which will lead to more gaps, misalignment and potentially your teeth can become loose. The bone within the jaw needs to be stimulated to stay strong and healthy. Without a tooth there, your bone will become weak and will start to deteriorate over time. This will lead to your jaw bone shifting position, causing premature ageing.

How will dental implants change your life?

Your confidence can really suffer when you are missing teeth. If you find yourself avoiding family photographs or covering your smile when you laugh, dental implants will really change your life. You will benefit from a full and natural-appearing smile. Your dental implants will feel so much like natural teeth, you will forget they’re not your own. As they are not removable, you can clean your teeth and gums as normal. You are also free to eat and drink whatever you like – no more worry about biting into an apple.
